More stories from El Salvador

So…...El Salvador is an interesting country. We are in the top 25 countries with most murders in the world (number 1 in fact), we once had a day with no murders at all, and everyone was very happy about it because it's' the longest we have gone with no murders. I don't mean to sound like I'm making light of a serious situation….but I feel like it was a good way to start this story.

Knowing how dangerous El Salvador can be, you would think that we are aware of how to go through life without getting mugged or worse. Well, that could not be further from the truth. Last year, my friends and I went to the movies after school and went to grab something to eat. My friend decided to go to the bathroom before joining us at the table. We ate and then asked for the check, very normal, very much the usual. Except that when my friend went to check for her wallet she realized she didn't have her phone in her purse. Of course, at this point, we all started to freak out and tried to figure out where her phone could be. We checked with security, the manager of the restaurant, but there is really little to nothing anyone can do in these types of situations.

After like 20 minutes of not being able to figure out where the phone could be I decided to try and call her phone and see if anyone would pick up...and they did! I could barely hear them, but by the end of the conversation, the guy just yelled to never call the number again….which was fun. The final attempt to get the phone was to get the GPS location of the phone, and it said it was in the zoo. I would like to add that the zoo is about 1 hour and 30 min away from where we were and it was also like 9pm so to this day we don't know if the guy actually went to the zoo after stealing the phone or it was a glitch. Although at the time we were all freaking out and stressed about it looking back it's pretty funny, in a weird way. We had a pretty good laugh about it after everything settled down.

And that's how my friend's phone ended up in the zoo.
