A little late but here's my review for The Maine's newest album.
I first got into The Maine when they released Lovely Little Lonely back in 2017, its 2 years later and here's they are again, delivering such a great album!
They went in strong with their first single, Numb Without You which set the bar for the rest of the album.
Slip the Noose
The first song of the album. Sets the tone for the whole album starting out with a slow chorus that goes building up as the song goes.
Oh, just slip the noose/ Untie the rope from my wrists/ I was about to let go/ 'Til I knew you existed
My Best Habit
The following song starts strong and keeps that vibe going through the whole song. The pre chorus is probably in this song is probably one of my favourites.
You know I'm not a human/ One part anxiety using two parts naivety/ Just to keep sane
Numb Without You
This was the first single, and the first look into the new era. The use of strings in this song took me by surprise the first time I heard this song. It fits so perfectly and I still thing this song is so damn good, no matter how many times I've heard it since it came out.
You are the violence in my veins/ You are the war inside my brain/ You are my glitter and my gloom/ I am so numb without you
I Feel It All Over
My first thought when hearing this song was "this would be such a good song live". There is just something about it that connects and feels welcoming.
We dance around the pain as the world breezes by
Heaven, We're Already Here
The strings in are very present in this song again. It has an element of suspense--it kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time.
So alive, we could die/As we drive all night in the afterlife
Forevermore
A laid back song. It's just vocals and an acoustic guitar; and it doesn't need anything else. Pretty chill and a nice listen. Probably one of my favourite ones from this album.
And I said, "I wanna feel like this forever"/Even if forever's just for now/We're on fire, let us burn
Tear Won't Cry (Shinjū)
This song feel more like a party song, kinda balancing out the last slow song.
Just like a secret lovers’ suicide/Kiss off into the sky/To a mystic place where tears won't cry
One Sunset
First time I heard it all I could think was: great road trip song. There's just something that makes me want to get into a car with my friends while blasting the song with the windows down and driving on forever.
One more sunset in this place/'Til I see her again
Broken Parts
It wouldn't be a Maine album if there wasn't a song that made you feel warm inside. This song just feels like a big hug letting you know that you are gonna be okay.
You can’t fall any further/Any further from the floor/So gather up yourself now, love/Just as you were before
Flowers on the Grave
A 9 minute and 23 second masterpiece. This song just gave me the chills when I first heard it. The lyrics are so beautiful and its so calm.
'Cause you don't plan life, you live it/You don't take love, you give it/You can't change what is written/So when fate cries, you listen
Overall this whole album feels like a friend letting you know that you are okay, and making sure that you are okay. The Maine always deliver great music, and they did not disappoint with this album.
